ReadingWise International is a social enterprise creating
world-class literacy, life skills, English language and
accelerated learning programs for both learners and teachers.
What we do #1
ReadingWise is an organisation that invents desperately needed learning programs that no one else has
built. We build programs for NGOS, corporates and schools. We teach illiterates to read, struggling readers
to read fluently, the shy to speak, teachers to teach effectively, and students to learn everything twice as
What we do #2
Our courses will take anyone from complete illiteracy all the
way up to full employability. We believe this is the only
sustainable route out of poverty and deprivation.
Our programs have been used all over India, and in Myanmar,
Sri Lanka and the UK. At any given time, tens of thousands of
children and adults are doing ReadingWise courses.
Our courses are life-changing.
300,000 children and adults have now graduated from
ReadingWise courses.
On the following pages, there is an overview of our projects
and our courses.
Over the last few years, we have been involved in the
following projects:
Making hundreds of thousands of adults literate in the
poorest rural areas of northern India.
Teaching teachers to use accelerated learning
techniques in central India.
Enabling tens of thousands of children to read and write
English in central India.
Enabling 15,000 schoolchildren with reading difficulties
learn to read fluently in the UK.
Enabling 45,000 unemployed below-poverty-line youths
in India to get jobs after we trained them in English and
life skills.
Enabling schoolchildren in Sri Lanka to read and speak
This is a multimedia program that addresses the following areas:
The full course can take a learner all the way from beginner up to CEFR
Level B1 or IELTS Level 4.5
It is suitable for both children and adults.
It works on PCs and tablets (Android) and large-screen smartphones.
It uses the ReadingWise learning method for accelerated learning. This
is a battery of 40+ study and classroom techniques to enable learners
to absorb large amounts of data rapidly with minimal effort.
It is intended for use in a blended environment where students coach
each other (peer learning), all the content is in the program, and the
teacher’s role is that of facilitator.
The Tara Akshar literacy program enables illiterate women
across northern India to read and write Hindi, and basic
numeracy. It does this in 45 days/75 hours.
It is astonishingly quick and effective because it uses a
battery of accelerated learning techniques.
This photograph shows one of our first graduates. 6 weeks
earlier, she had been completely illiterate. In the

200,000 women have so far graduated this course.
Tara Akshar has been funded by (Canadian
Government, Swiss Government, Microsoft), DfID (UK
Government), Indian Government, Madhya Pradesh State
Government, Oxfam, IKEA Foundation and others.
Learning in most parts of the world uses a centuries-old
model of a teacher standing at the front of the class
lecturing students verbally in an often vain attempt to get
them to retain information.
ReadingWise courses, on the other hand, are delivered by
facilitators, who get students to teach themselves from the
multimedia material given. Students work in pairs and
groups of 4 to encourage collaboration and working with
others. The facilitators main function is to make sure that
students understand their material. The course enables
students to apply what they have learnt as well as absorb
information rapidly.
This course is mandatory for anyone who is going to run a
ReadingWise course.
Those with teaching experience may need to UNlearn old
habits to do this course.
Most people in the developing world are too shy and too
introverted, and do not have the confidence to change the world
around them. Thus environments stay the same.
This course teaches:
How to face other people
How to not be shy
How to be extrovert
How to control conversations
How not to be put off by others
How to handle criticism
The course, which is more than 95% practical exercises, comprises
a series of tough one-to-one communication drills and role-plays,
together with public speaking exercises.
It is suitable for everyone – children and adults, urban and rural,
NGOs and corporates, schools and families.
Despite the huge amount of time we spend in school,
almost nobody is taught HOW to study, or how to
remember information. The human mind is capable of
learning far more if learning is done with the right
Multiple intelligences
Memory techniques (lots!)
Mind Mapping
Remembering names and faces
StudyWise graduates retain at least 50% more information
after doing the course then before. It is available as an
online course or as an offline workshop.
It is suitable for adults and children over the age of 8.
Most organisations face most of these problems most of
the time:
Staff do not follow instructions
Staff do not report accurately
Staff bring problems instead of solutions
There is too much opinion and not enough analysis
based on evidence.
This course addresses all these problems. It is suitable
for any level of staff member, from the lowest fresher
to the management team.
